Sugar beet is harvested between mid-September and the end of December. To relieve the pressure on the roads, some of the beet is loaded onto rail. As the logistics partner of Schweizer Zucker AG, TR Trans Rail AG has transported 303,715 tons of beet to the sugar factory in Frauenfeld in the past three months using over 200 trains.

Around 13 trains with 57,460 tons of organic beet, 60 import trains from Wismar (Germany) and 135 national beet trains with 246,255 tons of conventional sugar beet - that is TR Trans Rail AG's balance sheet for the 2020 sugar beet season. The last load of beet reached the Frauenfeld sugar factory just before Christmas. The wagon inspectors were on site in Frauenfeld for 127 days, checking over 200 trains during this time.

"All transports were accident-free and largely incident-free thanks to the good cooperation with the partners involved"

explains Peter Koch, Head of Major Projects at TR Trans Rail AG.

Thanks to the experience of the previous season and meticulous planning, national transportation in Frauenfeld was handled smoothly. In some growing regions, particularly in western Switzerland, drought and viral yellowing had a negative impact on yield and sugar content. As a result, various trains were diverted to the sugar factory in Aarberg at short notice. Thanks to the flexibility of everyone involved, it was possible to optimize the capacity utilization of the two factories as far as possible.‍

2021 campaign
In order to further increase the existing flexibility in the future, Schweizer Zucker AG has decided to award the contract for all national rail transportation for the coming years to TR Trans Rail. With this logistics contract, TR Trans Rail AG has reached another milestone in the company's history.
