The Re 4/4 II locomotive, built in 1984, has been freshly overhauled at the SBB factory in Bellinzona in recent weeks and was transferred to German-speaking Switzerland on Friday, 12 June 2020 with a new Rheingold livery in beige and cobalt blue. In addition to the approval for Switzerland, the locomotive also has approvals and equipment for journeys in Germany and Austria.
The Re 421 387 locomotive sold by SBB Cargo to International Rolling Stock Investment GmbH (IRSI) in fall 2019 has been freshly overhauled at the SBB plant in Bellinzona in recent weeks and now shines in new splendour. The locomotive will be transferred to Basel during the evening of Friday, June 12, 2020.
Externally, the transformation can be seen at first glance: instead of the SBB Cargo lettering, the locomotive now sports the colors beige and cobalt blue, in reference to the former long-distance express train "Rheingold" of the German Federal Railways, which ran from Amsterdam to various destinations in Switzerland in the 1960s.
"With this homage to the glory days, the two sister locomotives Re 421 387 and Re 421 393 - which have been running in the elegant TEE look since February 2020 - are eye-catchers in the railroad landscape"
enthuses Rudolf Krauer, Managing Director and Operations Manager of TR Trans Rail AG.
The International Rolling Stock Investment (IRSI) already used the Re 421 387 last fall for the sugar beet campaign, then still in the SBB Cargo livery. In future, it will also be used in its new livery for tourist trips in the event sector as well as for transfer, test and measurement runs. The locomotive will mainly be used by TR Trans Rail.
At the beginning of July 2020, ZRT Bahnreisen is planning a special train with the Re 421 387 to Berlin to transfer the blue carriages of the international long-distance express train to Switzerland. Participants can expect a comfortable journey in a 1st class carriage. Catering is also provided thanks to a dining car. The detailed program is currently still being worked out. Further information on the offer can be found at www.zrt.ch.
